What is krill?

Krill are tiny, shrimp-like crustaceans. Krill occupy a relatively low position on the marine food chain and they feed on phytoplankton. Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) can grow up to 6 cm in length and weigh about 2 grams.

How is krill harvesting regulated?
Currently commercial krill harvesting in Antarctic waters is regulated by CCAMLR (Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources). CCAMLR has set a limit of total annual krill harvesting to four million metric tonnes to secure sustainability.

Is it safe to use krill oil during pregnancy?
It is advised that you use krill oil during pregnancy, especially in its second and third trimesters when the fetus' brain is developing. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for building cell membranes. In addition to its numerous benefits, krill oil significantly increases the concentration of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in the brain.

Can I use krill oil if I am allergic to crustaceans or fish?
You should not use krill oil if you are allergic to crustaceans. If you are allergic to fish, you should consult with your doctor before using krill oil, or try using it strictly under the supervision of a specialist.

Can I use krill oil if I am breastfeeding?
It is recommended to use krill oil during pregnancy, especially in its second and third trimesters. There are no restrictions as regards using krill oil when breastfeeding - on the contrary, your baby will receive the essential DHA and EPA fatty acids.

What is the daily dose of krill oil capsules for adults and children?
In the first month, adults should take 2 capsules per day. It is recommended to take them after the meal in the morning or evening, either both capsules at a time, or one capsule twice per day. After the first month, the daily dose should be reduced to one capsule. Like any other dietary supplement, it should be used after the meal, and preferably in the evening. Avoid drinking coffee after you have just taken the krill oil. Children should take either one capsule per day or one capsule in three days, depending on their age.

How to give krill oil to a child who cannot swallow the capsule?
In this case it is best advised to puncture the soft gel capsule and squeeze the oil into a teaspoon. The teaspoon should contain a few drops of water to prevent the oil from sticking to the teaspoon.

How long can one use krill oil?
There are no restrictions as regards the time. Using it for prolonged periods of time and reasonably frequently will benefit your health because our body cannot synthesize Omega-3 and it requires dietary intake of this fatty acid. Krill oil is considered to be the most effective source of Omega-3 known today.

Does krill oil lower blood pressure?
Krill oil does not lower blood pressure. There is, however, evidence that krill oil improves metabolism and blood circulation, which normalizes high or low blood pressure.

Can I take krill oil on the same day I have drunk alcohol or the day after?
There are no restrictions as regards the use of krill oil together with alcohol, either before or after drinking it. Taking into account that krill oil improves metabolism and blood circulation, it might even prove to be beneficial. Nevertheless, considering the negative impact of alcohol on our health, using krill oil together with it would be a waste of a precious product.

What does Kriella™ Krill Oil contain?
Each capsule of Kriella™ Krill Oil contains 500 mg of pure Antarctic krill oil, rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids and the antioxidant astaxanthin.

How does Kriella™ Krill Oil differ from fish oil?
There are two important differences between Kriella™ Krill Oil and other commercially produced fish oils. First, fish oil contains significantly less Omega-3 phospholipids than krill oil. Second, Kriella™ Krill Oil is naturally rich in the powerful antioxidant astaxanthin.

Why is Kriella™ Krill Oil considered to be naturally clean and stable?
Antarctic krill inhabit some of the world's cleanest waters. Their potential for absorption and storage of environmental toxins is next to nothing. Kriella™ Krill Oil is not a manufactured concentrate, and the molecular structure of the oil or its constituents have not been altered. Krill oil is considered as stable marine oil because it contains astaxanthin which protects the Omega-3 fatty acids from becoming rancid due to oxidation. Moreover, Omega-3 fatty acids in phospholipids are less vulnerable to oxidation than Omega-3 fatty acids in triglycerides.
